The East West Center “promotes better relations and understanding among the people and nations of the United States, Asia, and the Pacific through cooperative study, research, and dialogue.”

The East-West Center came to CTR for a solution for a unique problem. They had a useful large format map and a fold out timeline for an important publication that they wanted to fit in a small format. This created issues both in the design and printing of the book as these pieces were three different sizes. This required a unique solution to produce the piece they desired.

CTR worked with them through the entire process to make sure that the design accommodated the unique needs of this book. All of the crossovers in printing needed to line up exactly or all of the data represented in the publication would be wrong. The timeline fold out meant that there was only a 1/64” margin for error in the entire production and bindery process. CTR’s staff was able to deliver within this margin, and create a simple solution for the oversize map; a low profile glue dot! As a result of the success of this book, East-West has already started work on a new edition due out later this year.
